What is Advanced Acupuncture?

Advanced acupuncture is acupuncture in its original form. It is an ancient, sophisticated and comprehensive medicine. Most people know that standard acupuncture is used to treat pain and provide relaxation.

In advanced acupuncture, we can treat severe conditions and also utilise it to treat emotional pain and for spiritual purposes.

An advanced acupuncture practitioner can use all 68 of the body’s channels, whereas standard acupuncture uses just 14.

With the command of these channels, we can even work with chronic degenerative diseases if patients can change their diet and lifestyle.

The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic, Huang Di Nei Jing, was written in the 2nd century BCE. This book contained the complete practice of acupuncture and included all 68 channels.

However, in the 11th and 12th Centuries CE, Chinese Medicine became standardised by the Imperial authorities. 46 out of the 68 channels were omitted from the officially approved practice of acupuncture. These included the very channels needed to treat complex illnesses.

Can we look to the original classic, the Nei Jing, to show us exactly how to use all 68 channels? No. Much of the language of classical Chinese medicine was written in a codified form. Fortunately, there is also a rich tradition of commentary within Chinese medicine. With an authentic line of transmission, where knowledge has been passed from teacher to student through successive generations, we can access the key nuances necessary to put this ancient wisdom into practice. Modern-day Daoist Master Dr Jeffrey Yuen is an 88th-generation lineage holder. He has dedicated his life to selflessly teaching this medicine so that it can benefit humankind.

Michelle Aris feels privileged and deeply grateful to have access to this teaching through lectures and workshops presented by Master Yuen and senior teachers within the lineage. Michelle continues the Chinese medicine apprenticeship tradition, currently studying with Master Yuen’s senior student, Ann Cecil-Sterman, in an intensive mentorship program. Michelle has also completed mentorship programs with renowned teachers Dr Hung Tran and Sean Tuten.
